Betty's Story
Bettys confidence in her ability to birth her baby is something to admire, and enabled her to have the birth she wanted.
Betty contacted me through whenpushcomestoshove as she was looking for an experienced doula to support her during her pregnancy and birth.
We met midway through her pregnancy and was instantly aligned in our views and values regarding the maternity service, and what her vision for pregnancy and birth looked like for her. I attended hospital appointments with her and her partner, and supported them by asking questions to their midwives so that they could make informed decisions regarding their care. Betty was very confident in her choices and was just looking for a little guidance, support and advocacy along the way. Shortly after her due date she gave birth in the comfort of her own home with just me and her partner present. I also provided postnatal care and breastfeeding support so that they could transition into parenthood with ease.
Betty chose my premium package which meant she had full access to my two courses 'Introduction to breastfeeding' and 'Introduction to parenthood' as well as my birth pool which she found very useful.
Bettys confidence in her ability to birth her baby is something to admire, and enabled her to have the birth she wanted.

If you are on the fence about getting a birth keeper - do it! And get Lou if you can!
By the time I got pregnant, thanks to WPCTS, I had a pretty clear idea about my pregnancy and birth, and most of my ideas weren't what the NHS would have liked - outside of their guidelines as they said.
So after a few appointments, that I felt were completely useless, I decided I needed more support, because the thought of only having NHS midwives wasn't really comforting. Thanks to Nickita, I found Lou and she has been amazing all throughout!
Lou has been supportive of my ideas from the beginning, and I finally had proper continuity of care too, because I knew she would be there at the birth for sure. She is so easy to talk to, and always ready to offer advice and some sources and materials to read if you are unsure about something. She never pushes anything on you, she is always respectful of your choices.
Attending a hospital appointment with me was invaluable as well, as she was asking all the right questions that I wanted to, just forgot in that moment. She has been a true advocat for me and my choices.
When the time came around for the birth, Lou came when I called, and was there to support me, not to interfere or interrupt. She let me lead, and was quietly observing. I felt completely supported and safe. In the end, both because of feeling completely safe and secure, and also because my little girl decided to come quite quickly and unexpectedly when I went out to the toilet, I didn't feel the need to have any NHS midwives present at the birth. This way, I could experience birth as it was meant to be, completely free of interventions and interruptions. I am forever grateful for this!
